

Carolyn
Quan is a visionary, entrepreneur and successful fine artist whose
artwork has been collected by art collectors worldwide from Australia
to Japan to Germany. She has been a successful, self-employed artist
for the past 26 years in Toronto, New York City, Maui, Honolulu, and
the San Francisco Bay Area. She has owned and operated The Quan Gallery
in Waikiki which featured her work as well as The Quan Gallery on
Maui, which she ran as an artist co-op gallery. She is an inspiration
and mentor to many artists and has decades of hands-on experience
and accumulated knowledge in business and in marketing and promotion
in both the commercial and fine art worlds. She is passionate about
sharing her experiences and knowledge with you, through the products
and services offered on this website.
Carolyn was born in Toronto, Canada, lived in New York City for 11
years, 9 years in Hawaii, and now resides in Sausalito, California.
Her accomplishments in life began at an early age and include several
awards for leadership, scholarship, athletics and art, beginning in
highschool. In art college, Carolyn was the recipient of the CityTV
- MuchMusic Scholarship which included full tuition for her fourth
year of studies and a summer internship at the MuchMusic television
station which is Canada's version of MTV. After working as a graphic
designer in television for 3 years in Toronto, Carolyn headed to New
York City to pursue her dream of designing album covers in the music
industry. Shortly after moving to NYC, she was offered a job as an
Art Director at Arista Records where she went on to become the recipient
of four gold records for her creative contributions to recording projects
by Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, Yes and the Grateful Dead. After 3
years at Arista Records, Carolyn started her own graphic design company
which specialized in the music and entertainment industries. Clients
included PolyGram Records, Warner Music Int'l, Sony Music, TriStar,
CBS Radio, and Black Entertainment Television, just to name a few. She worked on projects for many celebrity recording artists and entertainers including Eddie Izzard, Placido Domingo, Kenny G, Kiss, Aretha Franklin, Eurythmics, and Lionel Richie, amongst many others.
In 1997, Carolyn created and launched a full-color glossy multicultural
magazine, Urban Mozaik, which promotes cross cultural understanding
and celebrates diversity and was distributed throughout Canada and
the United States at major bookstores such as Barnes and Noble and
Borders. It continues to be published today on the internet as an
online e-magazine.
In 2000, Carolyn moved to Maui, Hawaii, and after 9-11 launched her
career in fine art. Carolyn and her art have been featured in magazines,
newspapers, television and radio and two of her nudes are included
in the permanent collection of art at The Kinsey Institute for Research
in Sex, Gender and Reproduction in Bloomington, Indiana, which was
founded by world renowned sex researcher, Dr. Alfred Kinsey. Her
artwork has been shown in Rio de Janeiro; New York City; Los Angeles;
Taos, New Mexico; Riviera Maya, Mexico; Toronto, Canada; and throughout
the Hawaiian islands. In 2008 she moved to Oahu to open up The Quan Gallery in Waikiki. Carolyn
has progressed through her fine art career at an accelerated speed
and now enjoys a life filled with creativity, travel, family, friends,
adventure, teaching/mentoring and doing art shows around the world. She is currently based in Sausalito, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
